The history of disposable e-cigarettes can be traced back to 2003, when Chinese pharmacist Han Li invented the first nicotine-based e-cigarette product, which is widely regarded as the invention of the first generation of e-cigarettes.

Early development
The early form of disposable e-cigarettes was disposable small cigarettes, which were easy to carry and looked like real cigarettes and could be discarded after use. This design reduces the complexity of manufacturing and use and is suitable for users who want to use e-cigarettes simply.
Market acceptance and technological innovation
Although early forms of disposable e-cigarettes exist, it is the explosive growth in recent years that has really attracted market attention. In particular, in 2022, disposable e-cigarettes ushered in explosive growth in the European market, with sales reaching US$1.54 billion, a year-on-year increase of 811.8%. This growth is mainly due to its convenience and relatively low price, especially in the UK and US markets, where disposable e-cigarettes accounted for 43.1% and 51.8% of sales respectively.

Policy impact and market response
Although disposable e-cigarettes have performed well in the market, their long-term impact on the environment and health has also aroused concern. For example, in January 2025, Belgium began to ban the sale of disposable e-cigarettes. This policy change reflects the global trend of regulation of e-cigarette products and emphasizes the importance of balancing market development and public health.
